Description
OrganiShield is an organic insecticide and fungicide that is made from sucrose octanoate esters (SOEs). SOEs are natural carbohydrates produced by plants, in this case extracted from coconuts, which are used to protect plants from pests and pathogens.
SOEs work multiple ways, by melting the waxy exterior of insects, but can kill most hard-shelled insects when mixed at a higher concentration as well. SOEs also work on powdery mildew, as well as other types of fungus.
SOEs contain no oils and therefore leave behind no oily residue. The half-life is approximately six days before the SOEs convert to CO2, which may lead to increased yield according to comparative data. They appear to be completely safe to spray all the way up to plant harvest, and can be sprayed onto plants in the light.
Originally designed to kill Varroa mites on bees, SOEs are people, pet, and plant safe.
